Increasing green house gas and its consequent climate change problems are discussed as a global issue. Accordingly, future local green house gas emission will increase up to 40% of the entire local green house gas emission and therefore, efforts to reduce the emission in construction industry is urgently required. Green building which is one of the alternatives to reduce greenhouse gas not only demonstrates environment friendly and excellent energy performances but also consumes less maintenance costs at the same time. As an effective alternative for green building, there are applications of interior finishing using wooden materials and wooden buildings. Wood is a renewable and sustainable resource because it grows naturally using solar energy and has an excellent carbon fixing effect when used as construction materials and furniture by emitting carbon dioxide especially when it absorbs, resolved and burns. From the viewpoints of energy, heat conductivity of ordinary construction materials are 1.3 W/mK for concrete, 0.082 W/mK for hardwood, 0.12 W/mK for plywood. These materials were identified to reduce building energy consumption more than maximum 7% when it is used in interior finishing materials because of high insulation capability of woods compared with other construction materials. And, dryness and dampness function and natural VOCc of the woods are studied to give positive influences to indoor residents’ psychology and health. Therefore, application of woods to building can be considered to be an effective way to reduce the burdens which are created by buildings or to reduce the greenhouse gas and they are materials which give positive influences to the indoor residents’ health. Accordingly, if the attributes of wood are sufficiently understood and properly applied to the buildings, wood can be used continuously like concrete and steel for decades or centuries and it could make environment friendly green buildings which lead human lives together. |
