Different from modern building, Hanok building has prefabricated forms of wooden furniture. Forms that complete the structure by assembling dry construction materials have differences only in the kinds of materials which compose the structure, but they are not much different from those of manufacturing industries. Especially Hanok is suitable for the new technology, BIM (Building Information Modeling) to be applied because materials which are traditionally assembled are united by the combinations and are proportionally combined. Generally, libraries of various sizes and forms or function which enables heterogeneous forms to be created can be easily realized and supported in BIM tool by setting Hanok to individual materials (library or family) that compose Hanok or to column-beam joint forms which are combined by multiple materials and by defining the parameters and interaction formulas between those parameters. This function is called as Parametric Modeling or parameter-type modeling. If this parametric modeling is applied and Hanok design is made three dimensionally, design speed will be much faster and more correct. At this moment, combination information, numerical value information and association information can be defined as parameters and through the adjustment of major defined independent parameter values, size, location and combination types of materials which are mutually linked each other can be adjusted according to users’ demands. If Hanok design is executed by using these intellectual functions, BIM based smart Hanok design where the experienced knowledge of Hanok professionals are melted will be possible. More follow-up studies should be made including sustainable environment friendly Hanok building, new Hanok construction considering new residential environment and CNC application of BIM model data etc. Generalization of Hanok and its distribution rate increase can be expected by securing much bigger competitiveness through the improvement of productivity and efficiency in Hanok design using BIM and BIM will play a big role in introducing Hanok building which has our ancestor’s wisdom and spirits. |
