요약2 Parametric design, one of the processes of Architectural design provides not only the variation of design itself, but also provides the environment of analysis and solution of certain design problems in construction phase. Design Computation guarantees construct-ability and rationality of architectural design through analyse, simulation and optimization. In this vein, new seoul city hall auditorium, recently built, is a significant case to achieve optimizing its geometry and simplifying materials throughout design computation. But if we use this method for building, it is not easy way to design a building that fulfills architectural desire. And it becomes harder if the designer can't express his/her product in traditional way such as two-dimensional architectural document. Seoul City Hall auditorium, placed in top floor of the building, is the most important place for the user that is connected to the lobby plaza in vertical circulation. This is the concept of Seoul City Hall. Internal mass of auditorium has irrational shape for attaching interior louver. And we have two options to solve the design: 1) make the uniform materials that suits shape; 2) optimize the shape that does not irritate the design direction of the auditorium. We chose the second option because the further option would save the intension of the designer, but each material cost could raise. The other one may not keep all of design concept of auditorium, but it can maintain the most concept of building with uniform shape of interior louver. We've made a document that could be built with the uniform shape from calculating the interference checking solution with 60 bottom-cut uniform louver. Each materials have its own number and are written in the document. With this louver section detail document, we could improve the constructability with checking its length and the other properties of material that could not be informed by the top plan and elevations. There's no other argument that the cutting edge of computer science helps the expressiveness in design, known as Non-Uniform design in architecture. However, if we can't persuade the client about the high-risen cost, all stunning method might not be worth it. That is because architects should propose their decent and strong design with reasonable building cost. Computer science these days is in the stage of not only the design computation, but also the analysing/optimizing the shape and simulating the design in virtual space. While building the City Hall, we persue the efficient cost and construct-ability rather than the aesthetic shape of the building. When we design the building using the process, designing by parameters and functions, so called "parametric design and non-uniform design", we may need to consider the efficient cost build the design rather than the aesthetic shape of building.
