요약2	Special design and construction technology are required to build structures in extreme cold regions where the tremendous amount of future energy is stored. Korea Institute of Civil engineering and building Technology (KICT) began research on the development of extreme cold region construction technology and field application for technical support to construct the Jangbogo research station in the Antarctic from 2010. Major research topics are site investigation and monitoring system in extreme cold regions, frozen ground stabilization technology, foundation design and evaluation system, high performance material and rapid construction technology. An experimental facility (Advanced Research Laboratory for Extreme Engineering, ARLEE) has been founded to simulate extreme cold environments and test characteristics of frozen soils such as frost heaving, thaw settlement, and mechanical properties. KICT will continue enhancing construction technologies of Korea and promote collaboration with private construction companies to have a much higher chance to get future construction business in cold regions.
