This study is on Park Young-hyo's thought about city and architecture. The Chi-do-yak-ron(1882) and the Chi-do-gyu-chik(1882), written by Kim, Ok-kyun(1851-1894) are well-known city theory papers of the civilization party. These papers was published in the title of Chi-do-gyu-chik. However, to gain the actual influence on the real city, this book need the existence of Park, Young-hyo(1861-1939). And, in fact, Park Young-hyo had been concerned with the birth of the Chi-do-gyu-chik. To find out the view of city and architecture of Park, Young-hyo, this paper examines his activity as the Hansong(Seoul) Mayor of 1883, his appeal of 1888, Home Office Order of 1895, and an interview of 1922. Therefore, we can conclude that Park, Young-hyo's thought anout city and architeture had influenced by the Chi-do-yak-ron and the Chi-do-gyu-chik of 1882 and continued until 1920's. |
