This paper investigated the characteristic of basic principle of city planning in ancient China. The main basic theories of the planning of ancient Chinese city are scattered in Zhouli, Guanzi, Zhouyi, Shangjunshu, Laozi, Hongfan and the theory of configuration of the ground. In the planning of ancient Chinese city, cities were planned differently according to grading system, the form of road was designed as check’s pattern and it was considered important to select location, form central axis and symmetry and use garden and water. The property of this is the reflection of the traditional ideology of the planning of ancient Chinese city The traditional ideology was formed gradually through practicing the theories mentioned above. The traditional ideology can be expressed as the concept of viewing the situation as a whole, the concept of nature, the concept of symbolism. |
