Fundamental socio-economic changes bring direct and indirect impacts on the spatial structure. In the socialist era the characteristic of urban spatial structure of Beijing and Eastberlin could be described as ‘static structure’. However, these urban spatial structure was changed dramatically after the transformation. As the spatial consequences of transformation in two cities, Suburbanization and revitalization of central areas were found. Suburbanization was one of the spatial consequences of changing spatial behavior of the civilian and private enterprise affected by special trans formation measures like the privatization of land ownership and state owned enterprises. Also, intensive and diverse land use was one of the important spatial consequences of transformation.
