The system transformation is expected in North Korea, with theadoption of open door policy and economic reform. with the privatization of housing and land, urban spatial structure will be changed considerably, as has been in the cities of former USSR, the Eastern European Countries and China. The privatized housing will be changedto commercial use, especially in the location with better accessibility, and the newly constructed housing sites are expectedto be in the outer area of the city with good living environments. The national enterprises with lower productivity would be shut down and the provision of the residential services would be in turmoil. The purpose of this paper is to propose the expected changes of the urban spatial structure in the cities of North Korea in the process of system transformation. depending on the cases of other former socialist cities. And the several countermeasures are proposed to make the better environment in the cities and national land of the Unified Korea. |
