However, they have been blamed for high dependency on Seoul due to insufficient self-containment. Given that it takes time for a new town to achieve its original goals by any international perspective, the functional change in the new towns might be going on. This study examines the change of self-containment level using O-D data in the five new towns and this study also examines whether they have the benefit of travel pattern as planned cities. The results reveal that the self-containment level of the five new towns has become higher over the years and they have low auto-dependency as planned cities.
