This paper aimsto interpret Resor House in terms of the two major characteristics by focusing on the relationship between the interior and exterior spaces in its living room. In Resor House, the horizontal feature using ceiling and the floor is fortified, while vertical feature such as the role of the solid wall is minimized to increase the relation of the inside with the outside in the given environmental conditions.In so doing, the living room space ends up having a homeogenous and continuous characteristic as a whole.This trait can be also considered an early form of Mies' later concept, "universal space." The other characteristic is that the building itself plays a role of a visual frame and that the interior and the exterior spaces create an integrated whole visually.It can be said that Mies places more emphasis on the correlative characteristic between the interior and the exterior spaces created by the building than on the building itself.The buildingas "a neutral frame" as Mies states is the phrase which expresses this characteristic very well |
