The purpose of this study focuses on developing a traditional color palette based on the images of traditional buildings by analyzing colors used in traditional buildings. To satisfy the goals of this study a total of 1,362 digital images of Cho-Sun dynasty's wooden buildings were analyzed by Color Syntax to propose a palette consisting of 511 traditional palace colors, including the Korean traditional color known as 'Oh-Bang' and 'Oh-Gan'. Another palette consisting of 350 residual building colors was proposed to give a total of 711 colors in these two palettes. The palette of traditional palace colors had a even distribution of Y, R, YR, GY, P, PB with the GY being the most abundant. Also the affluent distribution of overall low chroma and medium-high value were noticeable in this palette. In the other palette consisting of residual building colors almost all of the colors except B, BG and N were evenly distributed and the overall value was high while the chroma was evenly dispersed from high to low. |
