Tuned liquid damper (TLD) is a device for reducing vibration of a structure using liquid sloshing phenomenon. TLD is generally designed by the linear model based on linear wave theory. However, the behavior of the liquid is known to have the non-linear characteristics varying with the load amplitude and exication frequency. Especially, this non-linear characteristics should be considered in the seismic application of the TLD because earthquake load induces strong nonstationary responses. In this study, shaking table tests were performed in order to identify the dynamic non-linear characteristics inherent in sloshing behavior of the liquid, and investigate variation tendencies of tuned frequency ratio, damping ratio, and effective mass. |
