The polymeric desiccant newly developed in KIST was compared with the conventional desiccant, i.e. silica-gel for the dehumidification and regeneration performance. A small rotor sample was fabricated using the polymeric desiccant, and the same size of rotor sample of silica-gel was prepared from a commercial silica-gel desiccant rotor. The isotherm test of the rotor samples showed that the sorption capacity of the polymeric desiccant sample is more than two times larger than that of the silica-gel sample. For the dehumidification and regeneration performance test of the rotor samples, an oscillating flow test rig was devised. In this test rig, the air flow alternates periodically simulating the operation of a desiccant rotor. When the process inlet air is 30oC, 50%RH, the regeneration temperature is 60oC, the period is 7 minutes, and the air velocity is 2 m/s, the polymeric desiccant rotor sample showed a higher dehumidification rate by more than 20% than the silica gel rotor sample. |
