Hereupon, it is expected the 50 % of the world population to live in urban areas around 2010. Urbanization phenomenon such as traffic congestions, haphazard urban development, environment pollution and social unrest made citizen become more socially aware and amplified the concern about health like life extension in an aging society. According to this paradigm conversion, the World Health Organization (WHO) is encouraging the world to promote 'Health-City,'which is defined as a city where individuals can stretch their wings while the city gradually and creatively develops the physical, socialand environmental circumstance and they can live the best life by mutual cooperation. This means, it is difficult to measure and evaluate the health level of the city by only one simple indicator. In addition, we also need the local health indicator considering regionality since there might be differences between the health-city indicator for the different environment of the local society and the health-city indicator to compare between the health-cities in Korea and the differences as time passes. |
