Recently an eco-village, as one of the measures to promote local development and a part of garden village promotion business, has been created in Seocheon-gun, Choongcheongnam-do in cooperation with local government and private bodies. However, its proper post-development management on local ecological characteristics is difficult to come by with a general planning method. It is also thought that the increase in development-caused impermeable surfaces may interfere with securing water sources from surrounding streamlets or maintaining waterways. This study aimed to overcome these problems by applying a rainwater harvesting system to an ecological housing complex. In the original plan of Seocheon eco-village, rainwater was to be simply drained, contrary to the fact that rainwater in this study was designed to be used for flushing toilets in restrooms, gardening, or car washing, which resulted in promoting a reduction in consumption of water supply source and outflow. The result of capacity assessment of rainwater harvesting system showed that the average collection area in residences was 219.4㎡ if the roof area was to be used as catchment area, and a rainwater harvesting system with a capacity of 13 tons was designed to be installed for every 2 households. This plan promises an 85% reduction effect in rainwater outflow from rooftops, 50 tons of annual water supply substitution effect per household, and 1800 tons of water-saving effect per total complex. |
