This study investigates the characteristics of location in the traditional village. For this, it has carried out analyses by the Characteristics and times of Iphyang (入鄕: looking for and settling down at a habitation site), selecting 8 case sites. As a result of the study. First, the traditional villages commonly showed the pattern of growth through the Iphyang, settlement and prosperity. Second, those traditional villages that have been rehabilitated since their Iphyang in the early or mid Choson dynasty showed location forms satisfying requirements of the Fengshui-theory. Third, the identical social-cultural factors including ideologies and disturbances etc. have extreme influence on the location of traditional village. Fourth, though there is a tendency to prefer the southern exposure for the Chwahyang (坐向: the direction toward which a building faces) of the Head house, the priority is put on the Chwahyang considering natural environment. Lastly, In the Iphyang of traditional villages, Bokgeo(卜居: good inhabitation) and marriage showed similar forms of location, and Byeong-hwa-gi-pi (兵火忌避: action for the purpose of avoiding threatens like wars) showed the tendency of seclusive location. |
