This study analyzed the recognition process of urban form factors utilizing a cognitive map that is one of environmental psychological approach to improve physical environment. And it analyzed the factors related to express urban images, and difference in recognizing urban form factors according to the method to draw a cognitive map. Two surveys on Cheongju City were performed to university students and citizens. And a cognitive map was drawn with various questioning methods to analyze and interpret urban form and urban landscape characteristics of this city. The citizens of Choeongju city are appealed by its natural and historic/cultural landscape. And most of them recognize space mainly based on positional form. Furthermore, the necessity to strengthen the landscape management like securing a scenic axis is being raised.
