The concept of envelope of buildings has been historically changed from facade which emphasizes architectural effect of other elements such as structure or space to outer skin that expresses itself. As the outer skin gains its own beauty by being independent from structure and other architectural elements, it begins to need specialty identifying 'modernity' and revealing its potential in expressive way. In the works of Jean Nouvel, he defines modern expressivity as uncertainty against certainty of the Modernism architecture in the early 20th. In order to create uncertain and blurry image in his architecture, Jean Nouvel proposes new approaches in the use of details, materials, and composition of elements.
