Network, flow, information, and activity: these are some of the important features of modern societies and cities. 'Interface' among these characteristics their integrated operation. However, architecture has not yet departed from its conventional function as a physical interface. Buildings have existed as an isolated physical facilities in the city. However, railway stations are the first buildings with the contemporary concept of interface, born from the basis of network and flow, apart from the traditional logics of space and form. Therefore, it needs to analyze the affordance, complexity and network which is interfacial character of rail station. So, it can clarify the concept which still remains uncertain problems of contemporary architecture and the way of modern architecture to go in future. First, architecture is defined as interface and relationship between network society and transport facilities. And then, transport facilities are analyzed as a relationship between technique and homogeneous space, cities. After that, the characteristics of railway stations are deduced by interface in contemporary context. |
