As the economic turmoil around the world worsening the P&L statements of many small and large businesses is contributing the unpredictability as to future economic situations, its impact has spread on the construction industry in Korea. The project owners today view feasibility studies ever more important for reducing risk and accessing profitability, and the outcomes of the studies are often a deciding factor whether they would pursue construction projects. Further, the government now requires public companies conduct feasibility studies before they are pursuing a construction project above a certain threshold amount. Due to so many factors to be considered, however, the construction industry has not been able to set a reliable standard procedure for feasibility studies. In practice, this was often done by employees of construction companies or be outside consultants with unsubstantiated methods. This study will identify the shortcomings of the feasibility-study methods as they are conducted now, and will offer alternatives to traditional feasibility study methods. The outcome of this study will also be utilized in the future studies in developing more scientific and systematic feasibility studies. |
