The current paradigm shift of urban development 'Urban Regeneration' has shed light on Japanese Machizukuri. The Japanese experience of the Machizukuri Movement has been considered valuable for review to develop the unique korean solutions for future cites of korea. The purpose of this research was to scrutinize the characteristics of environmental improvement, and user participation method employed in the process. User participation method in the Noda North District which is a wellknown regeneration example based on resident participation. A field visit case study was a main research method. Data were collected through field observation, workshop, and existing material. Video recording, photographing were used for reliable analysis. The field was visited during October 2008. A workshop was carried out with the representative of resident community. As a result, street landscape improvement were identified with relevant proof scenes. Second, user participation methods identified including both one's before and after the improvement. Third the effect of Machizukuri movement were discussed in three aspects which are enhancement of community spirit, demographic change with increased young generation household and synergistic effect through cooperation between local government and citizen. The result of this study is unique in describing user participation activities and it is expected to be used as a reference to generate new ideas to promote resident participation in Korea for urban improvement. |
