An increase of energy consumption accompanied with an advancement of economic development aggravates the conditions of atmospheric contamination and greenhouse effects. One of the most significant factors that affects environmental contamination is energy consumption within building structures. For this reason, continuous research on insulation and energy-saving methods in residences in terms of architectural aspects have been made in many advanced countries as well as Korea. In this research, for the selection of materials in each element in the planning of ecological residential area, field investigation and documentary research has been studied in Germany, where ecological architecture is at the stage of practical use. Overall, materials that should be considered for domestic ecological residential has been elicitated. The result of the elicitation is as follows: In selecting architectural material, timber has been mostly used as constructional materials. Reason being, it can be recycled without discharging substances that are harmful for human beings. For exterior materials, timber and lime mortar has been mostly used also. As an insulating material, cellulose heat insulator and materials such as straw has been used. This is because the energy used when manufacturing and disposing materials, can be reduced as well as insuring indoor air quality. Instead of using synthetic resin and aluminum frame, wooden window frame was used the most. This is because it has an outstanding quality of insulation as well as being visually eco-friendly and secure the indoor air quality. Materials used in ecological residential areas are for those who reside in those areas and for the environment simultaneously. Materials that are more close to the nature, less energy is used for the production and disposal of those materials. Also no hazardous substances are discharged upon disposal. These materials can easily return to the nature. |
