This study focus on how to explain the different perceptions and attitudes toward becoming tourist destination of traditional village. The analysis is based upon 61 questionnaires returned by residents (:hosts) and 65 questionnaires returned by visitors (:guests) of Yangdong Folk Village, Gyeongju in South Korea. It was found that the guests perceived higher changes than the hosts in terms of positive changes of economic revitalization, community activation and increase of income after Traditional Folk Village designated and visitors have coming. However negative changes of inconvenience of living condition, commercial restriction, and damages from visitors was shown higher on the hosts than the guests. Also, regarding the important thing for Traditional Folk Village management in the future, the hosts selected repairing and maintain on old living facility as the first place and opening the house to the visitor as the lowest place. But, the guests selected the direct opposition place. In conclusion, the perception of change and value attitudes toward Traditional Folk Village was go just in the opposite direction between hosts and guests. Therefore, it may be useful in planning the action strategies for Folk Village management and reducing the conflicts Folk Village development between the hosts and guests. Each perspective and value should be explained in a full view to each other at introduction tourism development stage. |
