Discomfort glare from the artificial light is a major factor for evaluating lighting quality for healthy environment. Discomfort glare has been defined as the sensation leading to possible visual discomfort and potential reduction visual performance. The degree of discomfort glare depends on four main parameters, source luminance, the solid angle subtended by the source, the angular displacement of the source and general field luminance. Discomfort glare has been estimated in presence of size, luminance and glare source position. However, a little research has been conducted specifically for relation between background luminance and discomfort glare. The purpose of this study is to analyze discomfort glare according to background luminance. The experiment conducted on the Glare Tester. Twenty four subjects were participated in the experiment. The result showed the degree of discomfort glare was almost constant with change of background luminance in case of large light source. On the other hand, it decreased when background luminance getting higher in case of small light source. |
