This study tries to figure out how spatial structure has been changed for ten years in Ulsan using population density, employment density, and assessed land prices at the time of 1995, 2000, and 2005. Also, not only parametric analysis, but also non -parametric methods are run. There are three major findings. First, the civic center was shifted from Sungnam-dong and Okkyo-dong in Junggu to Samsan-dong in Namgu, which means that the size of the urban center is spreading. Second, mono-centric model could explain spatial structure of Ulsan until now. Finally, subcenters can not be identified by both parametric and nonparametric ways. As far as population and employment are concerned, Ulsan does not have the place to be able to undertake functions as subcenters. In addition, since the enlarging effect of the urban center could be accelerated if the last ten years pattern of urban growth is continued, urban management should also be necessary. |
