In most seismic design codes, strong column and weak beam, SCWB, specification is very significant for assuring the stability of buildings during earthquakes and precluding fatal weak story behavior. However, Korea Building Code 2005 does not specify the SCWB for design of moment-resisting frames though its 2008 edition is planned to include the specification. Therefore, the effect of no consideration of the SCWB on the buildings designed by the KBC 2005 needs to be investigated. In this study, a 3-story building modeled with and without actual panel zone configuration was analyzed by utilizing nonlinear static and dynamic methods, and as the results, nonlinear behaviors of structural elements such as beam, column, and panel zone were obtained to study the effect of the SCWB. |
