인문학으로 현실의 공간문제를 직접적으로 해결할 수는 없을 것이다. 그러나 우리가 어떻게 할 것인가, 왜 그렇게 해야 하는가에 대한 물음에 답하기 위해서는 인문학의 도움이 반드시 필요하다. 공간의 이용주체인 개개인이 공간에 대한 가치판단과 고민을 가능하게 하는 사유의 기반을 제공한다는 점에서 인문학의 중요성은 새삼 강조된다. 하지만, 기존에 이루어진 건축 도시공간분야에서 시도된 인문학관련 연구들의 주제는 성찰적 질문에 이르지 못하는 경우가 많고, 특히 철학이나 미학 이론을 건축적 언어로 재해석하여 건축계 내부의 시각에서 활용하고자 하는 경향마저 있다. 또한 인문학을 통해, 인간중심의 인문학을 공간에서 인간을 배제시킨 공간적 언어와 기호로 번역하는 배타적인 연구를 하는 경우도 있는 실정이다. 반면 인문학자들의 건축 도시공간분야 대한 연구는 사회학, 어문학, 철학 등 각자의 연구분야를 기반으로 건축 도시공간에 대한 비평 및 해석을 하기 때문에 비교적 다양한 양상을 보이지만 그 내용의 깊이에도 불구하고 일종의 해석이라는 점에서 이를 건축이나 도시설계와 같은 전문분야에 어떤 함의와 접점을 끌어내는 것이 쉽지 않다. 이러한 맥락에서 인문학자들의 연구와 건축도시공간분야의 전문연구의 간극을 적극적으로 메우는 작업이 현실적으로 요청된다. 본 연구를 위해 건축도시공간연구소에서는 인문학과 건축도시공간분야의 전문연구의 간극을 메우고 우리시대의 공간에 대한 가치를 함께 숙고하는 장으로서 AURI인문학 포럼을 진행하였다. 본 연구는 ‘공간의 인문학적 재해석’이라는 큰 주제 아래 진행되었으며 3회의 포럼에서 발표, 토론되었다. ‘공간에 대한 인문학적 재해석’이라는 주제는 인문학 부문의 새로운 연구방향을 제시함과 동시에 공간부문의 전문가들에게 다양한 인문학적 관점을 제시하고자 선정, 진행되었다. 각각의 연구주제는 약 일 년여간 포럼의 발제자들을 포함하여 중앙대학교 강내희 교수, 고려대학교 김우창 명예교수, 오슬로대학 박노자 교수 등 여러 인문학자들과의 기나긴 소통의 시간을 통해 선정하였다. 2008년도에 진행된 인문학포럼은 ‘공간의 인문학적 재해석’이라는 다소 추상적인 주제하에 각 연구자들이 기존에 연구하던 내용과 결을 맞추어 원고의 내용을 제안하고, 그 내용을 각 연구주제별로 묶고 수정하여 발표하는 방식을 선택하였다. 본 연구는 크게 4부로 나뉘어 있다. 제1부는 인식과 분절이라는 소주제로 ‘근대적 공간환경과 인문학자의 유령학(강내희)’이 공간에 대한 인문학자들의 접근이 새롭게 이루어져야 함을 제시하고, ‘동물생태학 vs. 성찰적 인간: 도시공간 전개방식의 사례(송도영)’에서는 도시가 인간의 이성과 합리성을 넘어서는 또 다른 설명방식으로 설명될 수 있다는 점을 주장하였으며, ‘공간의 권력: 푸코의 또 다른 공간들(임동근)’에서는 푸코의 헤테로토피아라는 개념을 소개하며, 제도화된 공간개념과 실제공간간의 불일치를 보여주고 있으며, 공간의 헤테로토피화를 구상하고 있다. 한편 ‘영상물의 외부공간, 그 인식과 실제(오성훈)’에서는 대중연속극에 나타나는 주거유형의 비중은 현실과는 큰 차이가 있으며 그 괴리는 현실에 대한 왜곡된 인식에서 기인된다고 주장하였다. 제2부는 장소의 조건이라는 소주제로 ‘문화환경속 도시공간의 인문학적 재구성(백승국)’은 도시형태와 도시디자인을 넘어선 인문학 기반, 역사문화중심으로 각종 공간사업들이 전개되어야 한다고 주장하였고, 이어 ‘도시공간에서 이야기만들기: 도시와 인간소통의 미적체험(김영순)’은 이야기만들기, 나누기의 중요성을 역설하며 도시-인간 소통, 도시를 매개로한 인간간의 소통에 있어 공간에 대한 이야기가 필수적이라고 하였다. 이러한 논의를 철학적 관점에서 구성한 ‘Design 서울, Text, 그리고 풍경(이종관)’은 도시의 디자인은 독특한 지역의 아우라를 형상화해야만 한다고 주장하였다. 제3부는 공간과 기억이라는 소주제로 ‘파괴와 복원의 정치학: 식민지 경험과 역사적 장소의 재구성(김백영)’은 기억과 망각의 문제는 함께 이루어지는 것이며, 역사적 공간의 복원은 언제나 선택과 배제가 이루어진다고 주장하면서 단순한 공간의 조작의 위험성을 드러내었고, 같은 맥락에서 ‘도시공간과 흔적 그리고 산보자(심혜련)’에서는 강제적 망각과 기억의 확장을 통한 도시의 디자인은 구경꾼을 위한 가상의 아우라만을 생산하는 문제를 지적하였고, ‘기억공간의 재구축: 히로시마 평화공원, 개발과 평화이념사이에서(권혁태)’는 히로시마의 사례를 중심으로 상징물이 기억을 독점화하고, 상징시설이 체험을 분단시키는 문제가 있음을 주장하며, 공간에 대한 집단적 기획이 가지는 긴장과 모순을 제시하였다. 제4부 건축의 횡단이라는 소주제로는 ‘현대건축의 담론에 나타난 공간개념의 비판적 검토(박영욱)’에서는 건축의 철학적 측면에도 불구하고 건축이 철학적 담론의 표현수단이 될 경우의 문제를 들고 있으며, ‘현대건축에서 기능주의와 기계주의(이진경)’에서는 미학적인 기능주의가 아니라 기계적 차원에서 제대로 작동하는 기계주의적 기능주의를 제시하며, 효과의 문제를 통해 건축을 사유함이 필요하다고 주장하고 있다. 이러한 원고들은 공히, 일반적인 공간의 관점에서 인문학적 접근 방식이 가지는 다음의 다섯 가지 논의영역 안에서 충실하게 공간을 해석하였다. 즉, 상기의 12편의 원고는 첫째, 공간의 장소성, 정체성, 개인화, 집단기억 등과 같은 공간의 가치와 의미에 대한 논의, 둘째, 공간의 사회학적, 기술사적 맥락이 강조되는 공간의 계획이나 설계, 개선기술의 선택과 확산과정에 대한 논의, 셋째, 철학적으로 이성적으로 복잡한 사회현상을 담을 수 밖에 없는 건축과 도시공간에 대한 연구방법론에 대한 논의, 넷째, 공간설계의 정당성을 획득하는 방식과 절차에 관련되는 공간에 대한 의사결정과정 및 권력체계, 그리고 그 효과에 대한 논의, 다섯째, 공간에서의 윤리적 실천에 대한 논의 등 이러한 다섯 가지 영역에 걸쳐 다양하게 우리의 공간에 대해 고민하고 해석하였다. 다만, 공간에서의 윤리적 실천에 대한 논의가 부족하고 나머지 영역에서의 논의도 좀 더 구체적으로 진행될 여지가 많으며, 기존의 계획이론이나 공간이론과의 접점, 또는 평가가 명확하게 이루어지지 않은 것이 미진한 점이라 할 수 있다. 공간에 대한 새로운 인식의 필요성과, 바람직한 공간의 조건, 그러한 조건을 기획하고 구축하는데 수반되는 폭력성, 그리고 건축적 사고에 대한 비평으로 이어지는 12편의 글이 공간부문에 대한 인문학적 접근을 망라하는 것은 아니다. 그러나 공산품처럼 기계적으로 찍어내는 판매용 도시공간이 아니라, 잡다하고 활기차게 살아있는 도시공간을 가꾸기 위해서는 이러한 접근이 더 다양하고 충실하게 지속되어야 할 것이다. |

We may not directly solve the space problems of real life with humanism. However we need humanism to answer the questions; how we do and why we do so. Importance of humanism is emphasized, because it provides basis of thinking that enables individuals - the users of the spaces - to decide value and to concern about the space. However, most themes of existing humanism related researches in the architecture and the urban space field have not reached reflectional questions yet. Even there was a tendency to utilize philosophy and esthetics theory from the view of internal architecture world after interpreting it into architectural language. In addition, there is a exclusive research that translates human-oriented humanism into the space language and sign, which exclude human, through humanism. On the other hand, studies of the architecture and the urban space by humanists show various aspects, because these are critics and interpretations of the architecture and the urban space on the basis of their own research field, such as sociology, linguistic and philosophy. Regardless the depth of the contents, it is not easy to find a contact point with professional field, such as the architecture or the urban planning, in the sense that it is a type of interpretation. In such context, a process is actually required to fill up the gap between researches of humanists and professional researches in the architecture and the urban space field. For the research, AURI has hosted AURI Humanist Forum to fill up the gap between humanism and professional researches of the architecture and the urban space, and to consider value of the space of our age. The research has been processed under the big theme of 'Humanist Interpretation of Space". It has been presented and discussed in 3 forums. The theme, Humanist Interpretation of Space, was selected and processed to propose various humanism points of view to the space experts. It also aims to provide new research directions in humanism field. Each research theme has been selected through long communication with presenters of a-year-long forum and humanists, such as Professor Naehee Kang of Choongang University, Honor Professor Woochang Kim of Korea University and Professor Noja Park of Oslo University. Under the abstractive theme of 'Humanist Interpretation of Space', 2008 Humanist Forum chose a method that each researcher proposes contents in accordance with existing researches, and then the contents are categorized by theme, adjusted and presented. The research is categorized into 4 chapters. In the first chapter, under sub-theme of Recognition and Segmentation, Naehee Kang in 'Modern space environment and spectral study of humanist' proposes that humanists should approach the space in new manners. Doyoung Song in 'Animal Ecology vs. Reflectional Human: case study of the urban space progress method' insists that the urban can be explained in different ways beyond the rational approach. Donggeun Im in 'Power of space: other spaces of Foucault' introduces the concept of Heterotopia of Foucault. Seonghoon Oh in 'Exterior space of video, its recognition and reality' insists that housing types appear in popular dramas are very different from the reality, and the difference is arose from the distortive recognition of the reality. In the second chapter, under the sub-theme of Condition of Space, Seungguk Baek in 'Humanist reorganization of the urban space in cultural environment' insists that beyond urban shape and design, there should be various space projects under process based on humanism that focus on history and culture. Youngsoon Kim in 'Making story in urban space: esthetic experience of the urban and human communication' states that story of the space is essential in communication among human being through the urban. Jonggwan Lee in 'Design Seoul, Texts and Landscape', which constitutes such discussion in philosophical context, insists that the urban design should express unique local aura. In the third chapter, under the sub-theme of Space and Memory, Baekyoung Kim in 'Politics of demolition and restoration: reorganization of the colonial experience and the historic space' insists that memory and oblivion happen together and there is always selection and exemption when restoring historic space, and shows the danger of simple space operation. In the same context, Hyeryun Shim in 'Trace of the urban space and the walker' points the problem that urban design through compulsive oblivion and expansion of memory only produces virtual aura for observers. Hyugtae Kwon in 'Restructure of the memory space: Peace Park in Hiroshima, between development and peace ideology' insists that the symbol monopolizes memory and the symbolic facility divides experience while focusing on Hiroshima case. He presents the tense and contradiction that group plan feels toward the space. In the forth chapter, under the sub-theme of Crossing of the Architecture, Youngwook Park in 'Critical review of the space concept in discussion of the modern architecture' explains the problems that arise when the architecture becomes expression mean of philosophical discussion, regardless of its philosophical aspect. Jinkyung Lee in 'Functionalism and mechanism in the modern architecture' presents the properly working mechanical functionalism in mechanic dimension, not esthetic functionalism. She insists that speculation of architecture is required through the question of effect . Such researches fully interpret the space in following 5 discussion fields; humanist ways of approach in general space point of view. Namely, above 12 researches variously consider and interpret our space in 5 fields. First, discussion of value and meaning of the space, such as location, identification, individualism and group memory; second, discussion of plan or design of the space where its social and technological context are emphasized, selection of improvement technology and expansion process; third, discussion of the research methodology regarding the architecture and the urban space that contains complex philosophical and rational social phenomenon; forth, discussion of decision making process and power structure, and its effect about the space, which is related to the method how to obtain justification of the space design; and fifth, discussion of the morale practice in the space. However discussion of the morale practice in the space is not sufficient, and discussions in other fields have to be developed in more detail. Unclear contact point with existing plan theory or space theory, or unclear evaluation are also the uncompleted issues. 12 researches comprise necessity of new recognition about the space, condition of desirable space, violence that follows to plan and construct such condition, and critics about constructive thinking. The researches do not collect all humanist approaches about the space. However such approaches have to be continued in detail and complete manner to make urban space to be divers and alive, not like factory made for-sale urban space. |
