The purpose of this paper is to identify a differences of a spatial expression for religious sacredness in the catholic church with clerestory focused on the Myeong-dong and Jeon-dong catholic cathedral. Finding out their size and proportion of nave, aisle, and composition of inner wall, the results of this study are as follows: Firstly, Myeong-dong is composed with 6 coordinated bays. Each of them is cleary an independent space with cross rib vault. On the other hand, Jeon-dong has galleries and bridges above both side isles and barrel vaults. The directional orientation of them is very valid. Secondly, combined 5/3.5m columnar series of Myeong-dong and Jeon-dong with articulated wall, each bay of Myeong-dong is sustained by individual, isolated quality, and the wall of Jeon-dong is a natural continuous sequence. Thirdly, the clear form of space and mass are easily recognized in Jeon-dong. It is true that bays belong to one unified object, but they yield only a part of many images in Myeong-dong. |
