This thesis start from the study of ontology which is on the center of the transition of architectural ideas in Zumthor's works. This study explicated that his works could be analyzed from the perspective of ontological theory after his concepts on the relationship between buildings and surroundings, architectural materials and tectonics, zeitgeist. In this study, my interest in Tectonics is not merely to examine its architectural thought and value, but to focus on what meaning and perspective it can give contemporaries. While our energy is exhausted owing to modern architects' or theoreticians' based interpretation of the social phenomena and pedantic theories.
