This study analyzed planning characteristic of residential facilities for the Elderly in Japan to suggest the direction of them that will be of the increase in supply and demand in accordance with the rapid growth in population of the elder. Focused on 7 residential facilities for the Elderly in the suburbs of Tokyo, the study analyzed general condition, the scale of facility and planning characteristic. Results are as fallow: Firstly, general feature of the subject facilities is that foundation days are mostly after 2000s when long-term care insurance was put in force. The number of units are various from 30 units of a small size to 326 units of a relatively large size. Secondly, most facilities are composed of one building and divided into low-rise buildings of 3 or 4 stories, high-rise ones of 13,14 stories and mixed ones of 7, 9 and 11 stories. The exclusive area of unit is from 33.81 to 74.52㎡, which meets the required most strict standard for residential facility for the Elders that should be over than 30㎡. At last, In terms of accessibility, most of them are located in the walkable area of 5-20 minute distance from subway and bus station. In addition, the layout of each unit is one-side corridor type for the most part that is good for lighting, ventilation and privacy. |
