Also, the exterior areas of building landmark functions operate as an important element. Currently, there has been increased interest in apartment exteriors and better elevation designs, but various elevation design elements are insufficient when considering crime prevention and safety. It became the means of many kinds of crimes. Studies on crime prevention through environmental designs have been accomplished in foreign countries and many kinds of counter-plans have been applied. Research in crime prevention through environmental design began in the early 1980s but the preparation of counter-plans for systematic crime prevention items is insufficient in public apartment designs. Research on apartment elevation designs that has an effect on crimes has been considered as one of the elements in the application of CPTED techniques. Since the existing conditions and problems are not favorable to apartment residents, the author realized that the solution to these problems would be the application of CPTED technique.
