We use various building materials such as steel, concrete, wood, glass etc. None of them is free from environmental issues. In an effort to solve the problems, much research has focused on eco-friendly building materials. Among them, soil is one of the most feasible materials. In this research, experimental tests were conducted to investigate the strength characteristics of the soil samples taken from two different sites. The size of the test specimen was 100mm in diameter, and 125mm in height. The variables in this study were constituent ratio of silty-clay, and admixture amount of lime and sawdust. Test result show that the strength is not closely correlated with the ratio of silty-clay. However, as the ratio of silty-clay increase, the biniding force is enhanced, which results in the increase of ductility. As the admixture of lime is increased, the strength also increased. Particularly, when 5% of lime was added, the strength reached the highest level. |
