Fire is the most serious single threat to all museum collections. It might lead to loss of life, loss of collections, and loss of building structural integrity-causing great physical damage to the unburned collections. Fire can destroy a museum's collection in a matter of minutes. Fire protection is as important to the long-term survival of a collection as proper curation, storage, and conservation. The major purpose of this study is to protect cultural resources from fire damage. Therefore it needs a comprehensive fire safety system in exhibition areas. It can help to limit losses from unexpected causes, such as fire, accidental damage. But few studies on fire safety in exhibition area found in the literature in Korea. For these purposes, fire vulnerability in exhibition area has been investigated using fire incident in Museum (domestic, foreign), referred to Museum Emergency Program, Museum Management Program and New Zealand fire safety plan. As a result, comprehensive guidelines for preventing fire risks to exhibition areas are proposed. They combine the architectural fire safety design, personnel maintenance and fire equipment. It is allowed to identifying and evaluating fire risks through assessment to minimize this collection deterioration and life loss. |
