Rapid development toward the age of information has broken the boundary of economic border and at last brought forth the phenomenon of population movement in large scale. Such phenomenon resulted in globalization of labor market, and such fever of labor market globalization produced more and more immigrants. At present, the number of immigrants doesn't reach a remarkable level yet, but globalization would be in progress more briskly through a consistent interaction between the world and individual, and therefore the moving population is expected to sharply rise too. Entering the era of one million foreigners in Korea's society, there naturally occurred nine (9) autonomous concentrated residential towns for immigrants including 'France Seorae Village in Banpo-4 dong Seocho-gu, 'Little China Town' near the overseas Chinese school in Yeonhee-dong Seodaemun-gu. etc. As globalization and multi-culturalism are on issue, immigrant-related issues come to attract attention. Under the Korea's social system not permitting the foreigner's settlement, the policy and regulation aimed at the immigrants characterized by short-term residence are still remained at an insufficient level. In addition, majority of immigrants, regardless of position and assets status in their countries, keep on undergoing negative effects of globalization such as isolation, division, confrontation, instability, inequality, etc. since migrated although the public concerns on well-being, life quality improvement, and health rise even higher in this country, Especially, ‘residence’ is an essential element that worked as the space supporting the health of body and mind as well as curing the machine-like life in this era, but the anxiety and stress due to maladjustment in foreign residential environment has been taken for granted as a normal matter of immigrants in general. Therefore this study is aimed to find out residential status of immigrants in phenomenological term and in their own ways, and then determine the level of their stress arising from such residential environment. This study is meaningful in its making preparations for the rushing multi-culture era, and the access from the aspect of health related with temporary residence of immigrants that has not been highlighted yet is also of value as a new attempt. |
