Many of these theaters are fan-shaped multi-purpose hall with prosceniums, side/back stage and orchestra shell. In this study, the effects of orchestra shell on musical performance of multi-purpose hall can be evaluated most effectively by comparing the influence of different kind of orchestra shells, full size orchestra shell and half size moveable stage reflector. Objective measurements using omni-loudspeaker and monaural microphone were also carried out at 18 positions in the audience and 7 positions on the stage in order to evaluate the effects of orchestra shell for the audience acoustics and stage acoustics. The results showed that reverberation time(RT60) was increased approximately 10% with the full size orchestra shell while the moveable stage reflector did not show the significant changes compare to the stage without reflectors. STTotal was increased about 10dB with full size orchestra shell while the moveable stage reflector increased only 3~4dB. It was found that the musical clarity(C80) was increased when the effective reflection area of the stage decreased with larger stage size.
