Performance of a water-cooled chiller is studied by dynamic simulation. Set temperature of cooling water exit, water-to-air heat exchanger specification, chilled and cooling water flow rates, and rated capacity are varied and their effect on coefficient of performance, capacity and total power consumption are studied. If the set temperature of cooling water exit is increased, COP and capacity ratios are increased, but since the part load factor is decreased, the overall COP is decreased. With enhanced exchanger, the total power consumption is decreased by 7.1%. With increased chilled and cooling water flow rates, the total power consumption is decreased by 6.5%. If the rated capacity is lowered to increase the part load factor, the total power consumption is decreased by 7.6%. For higher efficiency, it is suggested that the set temperature of cooling water exit be minimum. |
