In this study aims at exploring three types of residential remodeling for the physically handicapped by conducting a precedent study between the residence for normal people and the residence for the physically handicapped along with 19 case studies for the handicapped living in rented apartment specially built for them under a 2009 Incheon City’s Housing Project for the Handicapped. Residential remodeling for the physically handicapped can be classified into three types, which are functional, environmental, and aesthetic remodeling. First, the functional remodeling means to remodel residential environment based on necessary factors required for independent lives of the handicapped, which allows the handicapped to secure basic living with the sense of safety and convenience. Second, the environmental remodeling means improved residential environment by controlling residential environment which makes it possible for them to have sanitary places required for healthy life and enhancement of quality life. Finally, the aesthetic remodeling means remodeling in a psychological and emotional perspective, relating to visual cognition. |
