Due to the continuous economic growth, development of medical technology and increased average life expectancy resulting from improved standard of living since modernization, the number of elderly people started to rapidly increase in the modern society. Although the number of facilities that provide medical treatment for the elderly in Korea is rapidly increasing, planning and improvement of qualitative environment in terms of the decrease in length of hospital stay and creation of healing environment is yet insufficient. In addition, the process based on scientific and quantitative evidence to be applied for preliminary planning and designing of the these facilities is at an unsatisfactory level as well. Therefore, healing environment can contribute to the recovery of their health. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to derive physical environment planning elements for the formation of healing environment in geriatric hospitals based through ‘Evidence-based Design’. This study identified, through literature study, planning types based on the evidence for planning of the formation of physical healing environment and derived relative planning elements and factors. |
