The rapid aging trend in Korea is causing problem nationwide. Particularly, residence is the basic environment for the survival of human-beings and it is an essential base of life of the aged people. Therefore, stable supply of residence is an inevitable task in this era. On the other hand, residential status of the aging differs according to social status and characteristic situation of the local community, sharing various similarities among them. The purpose of this research is to identify the characteristic points of the residential plan of the aged people studying the preliminary retirees who plan their future after their retirement. This research used the survey method and the data were collected from Seoul metropolitan area between June and July 2009. Major points are as follows; First, residents in Gangnam area were assuming their expected retirement age and the beginning year of their old age 2.32 years and 2.50 years respectively longer than those of the residents in other areas nationwide. Second, residents in Gangnam area were more positive than the residents in other areas nationwide in their preparation for ‘physical preparedness’ such as participation in social meetings, voluntary services, exercise, and dietary adjustment and ‘social preparedness.’ And the residents in Gangnam area were liberal about their “dependence upon posterities” and therefore, ‘accessibility to their posterities’ was very important factor in selecting their residence for their aged years. Third, residents in areas nationwide showed a strong preference for ‘independent house’ and in case their situation gets worse, they preferred ‘detached residence.’ On the other hand, residents in Gangnam preferred ‘common apartment’ and if their situation gets worse, they preferred old age welfare homes or elderly home facilities |
