Recently, more attention has been paid to DSC(Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell) with the potential of glazing applications. The goal of this study is to analyse the optical characteristics of DSC by experiments. In order to evaluate the potential of DSC as a glazing material, it compared the optical characteristics of DSC module with those of a 4mm clear glass and the thin film PV module. The visible transmittances(VT) of the three materials, DSC module, 4mm clear glass and the thin film PV module, were 14%, 89%, 10% respectively, while solar heat gain coefficients(SHGC) were 0.50, 0.87 and 0.24 respectively. The results show that the DSC module has much lower VT compared with that of single clear glass, but better than thin film module that was commercially available. It is argued that the DSC module has a potential to use it as semi-transparent glazing material. |
