Although the window plays the significant role of the thermal bridge in buildings, the window area has not been reduced despite its negative impact on the energy. In this study, the heating and cooling loads are analyzed by simulating various window types, window-to-wall areas and different locations of households in Y-shaped tower type apartment building, focusing on the reduction of heating and cooling loads by 30%. This study is aimed at offering the database to be used in practice. As a result of the analysis, it turns out that the optimal window type depends on whether the aim is to reduce the heating or cooling load. The low overall heat transfer coefficient does not necessarily reduce the loads, indicating that different windows should be selected depending on each condition. Eventually, 30% load reduction compared to the standard condition could be achieved. However, this study is done using one particular model and under southern part of this country, indicating that those results can not be directly applied to other conditions and that further research is needed. This study focused on the passive strategy for the energy saving in residential buildings, focusing on heating and cooling loads. |
