Due to the global warming and the gradual increase of costs for energy generation, new buildings aim high energy efficiency. At the same time, the thermal comfort has to be maintained. To achive these requirements, a building has to contain and energetically optimated architecture, uses thermally optimized building construction and contains a well controlled and efficient plant system with focus on the use of sustainable energy. In order to investigate the reduction performance of building energy demand by passive design, we calculated the building energy demand by using the dynamic thermal simulation carried out with the dynamic thermal simulation program ESP-r. The base case has been compared with model variations which are focused on various window areas. As a result, a reduction of the window area by 30% not only leads to a significant reduction of the cooling energy demand of up to 26%, but also to a slight reduction of the heating energy demand of 3%. The reduction in solar energy gains are compensated by reduced transmission losses through the building enveloper. This measure has shown to be very effective in therms of building energy reduction and should seriously be taken into consideration. |
