Korean society has developed on the social background of homogenous nation and culture but as the country experiences the internationalization, multi-culture society has begun to take root with an unprecedented speed in the conventional homogenous tradition. This social change is an outcome of continuous interaction between the domestic changes in Korean society and the overall external global changes. However, though active discussions have been made about the subsequent consequences of multi-cultural phenomena in the society since the topics of multicultural society have become social issues in Korea, in-depth research about the multifarious cultural factors has not been made sufficiently. In addition, there have been little researches about the details and concrete problems in real life caused by the conflictions and contradictions due to the remarkable difference between the upcoming foreign cultures and traditional domestic cultures. Particularly, regarding the residence that is the base of life for the immigrants, one side approach of supplying immigrants is the current situation without sufficient researches on various problems caused by cultural differences, diverse desires and wishes based on different cultures. Therefore, based on residential experiences in the past, not only an in-depth qualitative analysis of overall requirements that are different from the conventional needs in Korea but also a quantitative research to identify the needs of diverse people comprehensively are presently necessary. Consequently, this study aims to identify and analyze the residential status, problems related with overall life of immigrants and the needs of almost 1.18 million foreigners residing in Korea, especially marriage immigrants who lead multi-cultural family life in Korea. |
