요약2	Although many studies have revealed the effects of telecommuting on reducing travel demand, little is known about its counter-acting effects, especially the "tele-sprawl" effect. Against this backdrop, using 2005 National Census Data, this study investigates the relationship between telecommuting and residential location of salaried workers in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. Main findings are as follows. Firstly, telecommuters` households are more likely to reside in large cities than small cities. However, they are more likely to choose rural areas (Eup or Myun) than urban areas (Dong). Secondly, telecommuters` households have been less likely to move for the last five years compared to commuters` households. Finally, the relationship between telecommuting and the direction of residential relocation is statistically insignificant. These results lead us to the conclusion that telecommuting does not cause residential relocation and tele-sprawl at least in the short term; on the other hand, the residence in the rural areas in large cities causes adoption of telecommuting.
