This study executed building energy simulation to evaluate exterior horizontal louver system of office space. The targeted shading device exclude summer sun at a high angle while allowing winter sun at a lower angle between louver fin space. Case study performed different design factors included horizontal extension distance, louver fin gap, window to wall area ratio, glazing optical performance (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient and Visible Transmittance). The results of this study are based on weather data of Seoul region. 1) Slant angle of louver fin is determined the lowest sun altitude of a year in the region. 2) When window vertical length is 1, 0.25 times of horizontal extension exclude about 14% of window transmitted solar radiation and 0.5 times of horizontal extension exclude about 24% of window transmitted solar radiation. 3) Increase of louver gap 10mm brings 5% increase of solar window transmitted solar radiation. 4) Exterior horizontal louver system is more effective when WWR and SHGC has a large number. Above WWR 53% and SHGC 0.6 cases result about 10% building loads reduction of the year on the average. |
