This paper investigates minimum weight structural design of sinusoidal corrugated web girder and characteristics of optimum cross-section in accordance with structural design codes. To do an optimum design, we consider objective function as minimum weight of the girder, use the constraint functions as slenderness ratio, stress and the girder deflection, and adopt the design variables concerning cross-section of the girder. We also choose EN 1993-1-5 and DASt-R015 to compare shear design codes of sinusoidal corrugated web. With this, we adopt a simply supported girder as mathematical model, and carry out genetic algorithm simulation to investigate the characteristics of minimum weight and cross-section of the girder. The result of the investigation shows that optimum cross-section area of EN 1993-1-5 is smaller than that of DASt-R015 and can be designed in more slenderness. A yield strength increase brings the decrease in the optimum cross-section area in the simple beams under concentrated load and uniform load. The minimum weight design of sinusoidal corrugated web shows a tendency to increase design variables with load increase. Besides, corrugated web thickness shows a tendency of stable increase regardless the yielding strength of corrugated web girder, and shows a similarity in the increase of optimal cross-section area. |
