Green infrastructure(GI) offers a contemporary approach to the conceptualization and management of open spaces including parks and green spaces. It has developed rapidly in the UK, Europe and North America as a result of the opportunities in meeting the ecological, economic and social challenges of spatial planning. The purpose of this study is to seek changing process of GI concept, planning method and policy in the UK through the research of the previous studies on park and green space discourse. The results of the study are as follows. First, GI is not a new concept. The appearance of public park, the evolution of greenspace planning, Garden Cities and the earlier New Towns embodies the essence of GI and provide working examples from which we can learn. Second, each of principal agents local, regional and national body is integrating GI concept and practice into the planning system with sharing responsibility of agents to make more effective green infrastructure planning in the country. Because the concern on GI has begun to make a mark in Korea recently, so this study has lots of implications for our green infrastucture planning. |
