However, simulation can also be used for optimal system control and building operations in existing buildings. Recent development of robust simulation engines and middlewares allow real-time building energy simulation in the operational phase, which can be used for optimal controls and FDD(fault detection and diagnosis). In this paper, the real-time building energy simulation system is established in an existing building using EnergyPlus and BEMS through Building Control Virtual Test Bed (BCVTB) that enables the data exchange between programs and hardwares. This real-time building energy simulation system is applied to an existing building equipped with BEMS.
