The increased social interest in a children's library has boosted the foundation of public and private libraries for children, including private libraries. Compared to the attention and governmental support, however, academical effort for a children's library is mediocre. Therefore, it is required to meet the future need of libraries for children in a professional way. Regarding organizing a children's library, the library should be equipped with environment where systemic information is available to reduce trial and error, provide pleasant indoor environment, and activate a setting for kids' reading. This study selected 4 children's libraries which opened after 2000, located in Seoul. Literature review was used to define the reading area in the library and reclassify parts of space. This study aims at suggesting an effective and healthy environment in designing a library for children in the future and providing basic information for proper progress in children's reading. By resorting preceding research, elements of the space were classified into entering sector, service sector, particular activities sector, preserving data sector, convenience sector. |
