Until now, perception and cognition theory has been one of several perspectives describing the process of spatial recognition through the human-environment interaction. Kevin Lynch introduced the concept of mental map and images in the recognition of surroundings and urban spaces. Through these mental representations, he was able to isolate distinct physical elements of the actual city.
